Social Impact
PIE is proud to work on a diverse range of evaluation, strategic planning, and capacity-building projects across the social impact sector which influence the lives of our community members.
Below are areas and brief descriptions of PIE’s diverse experience working in partnership on projects that span the social impact spectrum:

Grantmaking & Philanthropy
Foundations, priority area development, grantee cohort evaluation and capacity building, and convenings.
PIE worked with an evolving network of foundation grantees over a five-year initiative focused on helping the foundation’s grantees track their progress toward strategic goals. Through this network, the foundation built its capacity for evaluative thinking and provided a platform for ongoing learning and professional development for its grantees.

Education
Full service community schools, literacy development, out of school time programs, and holistic approaches to education
PIE currently serves as the external evaluator for two Full Service Community Schools grants from the US Department of Education. The grants aim to scale a collaborative, place-based approach to education in 32 schools across Illinois, including rural areas. This evaluation will ultimately tell the story of the model’s impact on schools, students, and families, demonstrating PIE’s expertise in evaluating complex, multi-site initiatives that bridge educational and community health outcomes.

Healthcare
Violence prevention, mental health, oral health, collective partnerships, and wellness
PIE worked with a statewide healthcare focused foundation that funded multi-year collaboratives in four communities to improve children’s behavioral health by developing and implementing community-driven systems of care with an emphasis on universal health screenings. PIE conducted a retrospective evaluation to assess the initiative’s lasting impact over many years, culminating in a statewide convening to strengthen connections and support future efforts.

Finance & Wealth Building
Access to capital, small businesses, workforce development, and digital literacy
PIE worked with an initiative dedicated to helping residents of underinvested communities achieve affordable homeownership and build generational wealth. We worked with leadership and multiple sector-driven committees to develop a three-year strategic plan with an 18-month detailed implementation plan to guide the initiative’s future impact and sustainability.

Arts & Culture
Design thinking, programming, and audience research

Cross-Sector
PIE served as a strategy and evaluation partner, helping to develop a framework and plan for systems-wide change for a collaborative of 50+ community organizations in a designated geographic area. We helped the collaborative identify shared goals and metrics to address opportunity gaps in areas like academic achievement, early childhood, and family health.
